Career Day influences matriculant’s degree choice

I, Nico Bezuidenhout have been in Kirkwood High School since 2013 and matriculated in 2022. I have always had an analytical mind and enjoy problem-solving and solution development.

In Grade 9 I had to choose subjects and take Computer Applications Technology, Science and Accounting as I was unsure of what I would do in the future. In grade 11 I did research about what to study and by the end of 2021 I narrowed my options down to Mechatronic Engineering, something related to computers or Chemistry.

On 12 April 2022 a career expo was held on the Kirkwood high school rugby field, where I

met Jackson Tshabalala from Tangible Africa. We had a long chat and he gave me great advice. This is where I was introduced to the game TANKS and it instantly sparked an interest in me. I was introduced to the basics of programming in an interactive game-like environment. TANKS taught me problem-solving, out-of-the-box thinking and basic programming fundamentals.
